What to Expect

We Walk You Through Every Step

Installing a standby generator is not complicated when you have the right team. Gen-Man Generators has installed hundreds of Generac systems across North Alabama. We are a licensed electrical contractor, so we do not hand off the electrical work to someone else. Our crew handles everything from start to finish.

Most residential installations are complete in one to two days. We keep you informed at every step and do not leave until you know how your system works.

Our Process

How a Generator Installation Works

Home and Site Evaluation

Before we recommend anything, we come out to your home. We look at your electrical panel, your gas or propane supply, your lot, and how your home is laid out. We want to understand what you need to keep running during an outage and what size system will handle that load.

This visit is free. No obligation.

Generator Sizing

Choosing the right size matters. Too small and the generator trips under load. Too large and you paid more than you needed to. We calculate your essential loads, talk through your priorities, and recommend the right Generac model for your home.

We carry air-cooled units starting at 10kW and liquid-cooled units up to 150kW for larger homes and businesses.

Electrical Planning

As a licensed electrical contractor, we plan the full electrical connection before a single wire is run. This includes reviewing your main panel, planning the transfer switch location, and making sure the installation meets Alabama electrical code.

We pull all required permits so the job is done legally and on record.

Transfer Switch Installation

The transfer switch is what disconnects your home from the utility grid and switches you over to generator power automatically. It is also what protects utility workers from your generator back-feeding the line.

We install Generac automatic transfer switches designed to work directly with your Generac unit. They communicate with each other and respond in seconds when the grid drops.

Pad and Placement

Generac standby generators sit on a concrete pad next to your home, similar to a central air conditioner. We handle the pad and place the unit in a location that meets setback requirements, keeps exhaust away from doors and windows, and is accessible for future service.

Placement matters for noise, safety, and long-term maintenance access.

Installation Day

Our crew arrives on schedule. We set the unit, run the gas or propane line, make the electrical connections, and tie everything into the transfer switch. We work clean, stay out of your way, and clean up before we leave.

Most residential jobs are complete in one day. Larger systems or more complex electrical setups may take two.

Testing and Commissioning

Once everything is connected, we run the generator through a full test. We simulate a power outage, confirm the transfer switch kicks in properly, verify voltage and frequency are in range, and check for any issues before we call it done.

We do not leave until the system passes.

Customer Walkthrough

Before we pack up, we walk you through your new system. We show you how to use the control panel, how to switch to manual mode if you ever need to, how to check the oil and coolant, and when to schedule your first maintenance visit.

We answer every question. There are no dumb questions when you just spent real money on a generator.

Long-Term Support

We are not a national company that installs and disappears. We are based in Arab, Alabama. When your generator needs service, a warranty repair, or its annual maintenance, you call the same number and get the same team.

We service what we sell. That is the Gen-Man promise.

Why It Matters

Your Generator Should Be Installed by a Licensed Electrical Contractor

Alabama requires a licensed electrical contractor to perform standby generator installations. This is not a suggestion. It is the law.

Some generator dealers use subcontractors or work around permit requirements. We do not. Every Gen-Man installation is performed by our licensed crew, permitted with the local authority, and inspected before it is called complete.

This protects you in two important ways. First, your homeowner's insurance stays valid. An unpermitted electrical installation can void your coverage. Second, the work is on record if you ever sell your home.
