Your standby generator is always on standby. It runs a brief self-test each week to confirm it is ready. The moment utility power drops, the automatic transfer switch detects the outage and signals the generator to start. Within seconds, power is restored to your home. When utility power returns, the transfer switch disconnects the generator and puts your home back on the grid. The generator cools down and returns to standby mode.
